You don't need to know anything before you start
A short, easy-to-understand introduction to Ayurveda: what it is, how it sees you, and why small steps matter.
What is Ayurveda?
Its name means “the knowledge of life”.
Ayurveda is an ancient system of holistic well-being that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Its name means "the knowledge of life", and it recognizes the deep connection between body, mind, and the world around us.
At its heart, Ayurveda is about understanding ourselves and living in harmony with our unique nature. It emphasizes the role of food, lifestyle, daily routines, and seasonal rhythms in maintaining balance and supporting overall health and well-being.
Ayurveda takes a personalized approach to wellness and can work alongside modern healthcare, complementing rather than replacing it.
How Ayurveda understands you
Ayurveda begins with a simple yet profound idea: each of us is unique. What brings balance to one person may not necessarily work for another.
According to Ayurvedic philosophy, everything in nature, including the human body, is made up of five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements combine to form three fundamental energies, known as doshas.
Vata, Pitta and Kapha
-
Vata
Associated with movement and communication.
Space & Air -
Pitta
Associated with transformation, digestion, and metabolism.
Fire & Water -
Kapha
Associated with structure, stability, and nourishment.
Water & Earth
We all have these three doshas in different proportions. Their unique combination forms our individual constitution, or prakriti, which influences our physical, mental, and emotional tendencies.
While our underlying constitution remains relatively constant, our state of balance can shift with our lifestyle, environment, seasons, and stages of life. Ayurveda helps us recognize these changing patterns and make thoughtful choices to support greater balance.
